Before the test
The objective with this part of the examination is to ensure potential ADI's have a high level of driving skill which will enable them to utilise their knowledge and skills to promote good, safe driving techniques in the novice learner to help them in turn to achieve the DSA learner driver driving test standards.
Some useful advice includes:
You might want to download and read the ADI 1. Its the rules a Supervising Examiner must use in conducting the Part 2 and 3 tests.
Every time you're out driving, try to drive to Part 2 standards, as suggested by your tutor;
You are allowed to use any type of car, providing its roadworthy;
You can use a car which has school signs, provided it doesn't have any 'L' plates displayed, which would suggest that its being driven by a learner driver;
Make sure your car is clean inside and out, and you dress smartly to give a good impression;
Try to get a good nights sleep the night before;
THE TEST
Do make sure you take your driving licence with you together with your letter of appointment;
You will asked to perform the following exercises - left reverse; right reverse; Turn-in-the-road; Emergency Stop, and depending on the test centre (if they have a car park), either a parallel or bay park;
You may know that the test will last an hour, and you must not make any more that 6 minor faults to pass;
On the test, try to be as calm as possible under the circumstances - a little bit a nerves is a good thing, it gets your adrenalin levels up which helps you to concentrate more;
If you really feel tense, this is because your brain is being starved of oxygen due to the stress. To overcome this, take some slow deep breaths;.
The Supervising Examiner (SE) understands that you are under pressure to give them a good drive;
Try to be positive with your driving and attitude;
Try not to 'go to pieces' when you fell that you've made an error;
You will find that the SE is friendly and will chat to you a little;
You will be given your result at the end of your drive;
Drive as you normally do, and not as you think the SE expects you to drive, and put on a 'display'.
The Part 2 test requires candidates to display a comprehensive knowledge of the principles of safe, confident driving, including forward planning and expert execution as outlined in "Driving - the essential skills" and other publications issued by the Driving Standards Agency
