The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, or ROSPA, is the second most popular test for drivers, behind the Institute of Advanced Motoring. The ROSPA organisation has been in existence for over 80 years.
It differs from the IAM driving test in as much that there are three levels of attainment, namely: Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates. The aim is to achieve a Gold status. If you don't achieve that level initially, you are encouraged to re-take the test after three years. The other difference, is that once you have attained Gold status you are required to retake the test every three years to prove that you can maintain that standard.
The emphasis on the ROSPA test, is speed with safety, as well as high levels of perception and anticipation.
The test is conducted by a Police Class One driver, and will be over all types of roads.
At the end of 90 minutes, the examiner will give you a thorough debrief.
Once you have passed the test, whichever grade you achieved, you will be automatically enrolled to the organisation as a member.
- £48 which includes the test and the first years membership.
Although ROSPA is a national organisation, it has local groups, who are only too willing to give you an assessment on your current skills. They also have meetings throughout the year on various driving related issues.
